A Place with an Extraordinary History

Hotel Herbal is housed in a former Franciscan monastery complex built between 1680 and 1694 – the oldest building on Włodkowica Street, with nearly 350 years of history hidden within its walls.

From the 17th to 19th Century

The Franciscans received this plot as compensation for their lost monastery on Bernardyńska Street. The complex was designed by Mateusz Biener, who also co-created the Church of St. Anthony.
The monastic buildings formed a closed courtyard with a historic well (1729) that still stands today. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the property was taken over by the Sisters of St. Elizabeth, who expanded the site and established a garden and orchard.

The 20th Century

In the 1930s, the monastery became the meeting place of the ecumenical group “Una Sancta,” which aimed to foster reconciliation among Christians.After 1945, the property was managed by the Salesians and later served as a student dormitory and residential building.

Before the renovation

The 21st Century – A New Life for a Historic Monastery

In 2016, the historic complex was acquired by Castellum, which carried out a comprehensive restoration, preserving the original character of the architecture.
In 2021, the renovated interiors began a new chapter as Hotel Herbal – a unique space where historic charm meets modern comfort.
